The American Heroes Foundation Board of Directors announced today that Desert Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens will be the new home of the military museum previously housed at the Ramada Express Hotel Casino in Laughlin, Nevada. Desert Lawn, owned and operated by Kevin and Julie Hassett, is located at 9250 South Ranchero Lane in Mohave Valley, Arizona. The American Heroes Museum was retired from the Ramada Express Pavilion Theater in January 2006. Ginger DeBenedetto, Chairman of the AHF Board of Directors, said that the choice was a difficult one because all the proposals/business plans had their strong points and each had a desire to display the memorabilia and honor American Veterans. Other organizations submitting proposals included the City of Bullhead City and the Arizona Veterans Memorial, Inc. also of Bullhead City, Arizona. DeBenedetto said that the Board considered many factors including location, long term plans and overall common commitment. Ultimately, the AHF Board chose Desert Lawn because of its long term plans to display and enhance the existing museum. “Placing the American Heroes Museum at Desert Lawn is a natural extension of their Veteran Garden of Honor that is already in place. The Hassett’s have hosted patriotic ceremonies for the public since 1984 and they work closely with Veterans and their families. They have made a commitment to carry on the tradition of the Ramada Express in honoring and remembering our Veterans,” DeBenedetto said. The transfer of the historical memorabilia to Desert Lawn is expected to take place by the end of the year. Announcements will be made in the future for the opening of the new museum. |
